4 Breeze Bally Ache For Comely Stakes Several Grey Lag Candidates Timed by Clockers; Quill Is Readied for Seasonal Debut By COSTY CARAS Staff Correspondent JAMAICA, L. I., N. Y., May 5.— Leonard D. Fruchtmans record-smashing juvenile, Bally Ache, who demolished Red Sonnetts 17-year-old track standard of :58 for the 5 furlongs distance last week, with a sizzling :5745 performance over a lightning fast, sloppy surface, "blew out" for tomorrows Comely Stakes, this morning over the Jamaica track. The bay son of Ballydam — Celestial Blue, by Supremus, breezed three furlongs in :39, after covering the first quarter of a mile in :23. Trainer H. J. Pitt did not ask Bally Ache for any of his vaunted speed during the drill and seemed highly pleased with the colts work. While hanging up a new standard, accomplished under 122 pounds. Bally Ache posted crisp fractions of :22y5 and -A5Vs. Trainer Oscar White had Walter M. Jeffords stakes winner, Piano Jim, on the Belmont main track in preparation for Saturdays Grey Lag Cap.
