3,076 Races Run in California in 58 The 1959 American Racing Manual now on sale reveals that more horse races were conducted in California last year than in any other state. California tracks, with 378 racing days, were the scene of 3,076 races. Illinois was next in line with 2,642 followed by Ohio, 2,583, and West Virginia, 2,490.
