Nine Horses Earn Preference For Ascots Two-Mile Gold Cup ASCOT PARK. Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, May 5. — Nine horses have earned preference thus far to start in the 0,000 added Ascot Gold Cup here on Saturday, May 16. at 2 miles. Ray Loughlins chestnut gelding Reins-pect, trained by J. D. Price, leads all qualifiers with three wins over the Akron course distance of 33 feet less than 1 5-16 miles, the distance at which horses must win to gain preference for the Gold Cup. Others with winners preference are Clay Mouse, Blue Dare, Condor II., Blimey, Court-Me Too, Chicatoo, Lils Flash and Near to Me. Racing secretary Charles Henry plans two more allowance races at the qualifying distance to "beef up" the quality of the starting field.
