Fifteen FleelkW In Governors Cap Andre, Parnassus in Field; Seven Eligible for Richer Massachusetts Wednesday By A VERY BROWN Staff Correspondent SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 14. Fifteen of the top handicap horses at Suffolk Downs are slated to match strides in Saturdays 0,000 Governors Handicap at a mile. Of that number, seven are still eligible for the richer Massachusetts Handicap to be run here on next Wednesday. River Divide Farms Andre, the Cinderella horse who came out of the claiming ranks to figure prominently in many stake events last season, gets top weight assignment Saturday with 119 pounds, one more than that assigned to J. S. Phipps Parnassus. The weight concessions Andre must make range up to 13 pounds to Africance and My Aruly Fair, who are the lightweights at 106 pounds. Andre is reported fit as hands can make him for Saturdays race, and recently turned in a creditable sprint effort to sharpen his speed. Jockey Gene Martin, regular rider for trainer Rollie Shepp, will again be up. The Governors now looms as a proving ground for Parnassus. The War Admiral colt had elevated himself to the top spot among the local handicap ranks prior to shipping to Pimlico last week end when he turned in a poor race in the Dixie Handicap. Should Parnassus regain his form, it is understood he will be given a chance at the 0,000-added prize of the Massachusetts. In the big race, the Phipps colt is asked to carry ll4 pounds and a victory Saturday would not penalize him. The conditions of the Mass. Cap reads "a penalty of three pounds will be picked up by a winner of 5,000 subsequent to the publication of weights." Rogers to Ride Chris Rogers, who has been up on Parnassus in most of his important races, will again guide him. Another member of the Governors field who may earn a starting berth in the Massachusetts is Jim Beatties Park Dandy. The home-bred Bull Dandy gelding has been progressing steadily in his training since arriving here from Gulfstream Park, and rates better than a good chance of taking top honors. The 116 .pounds he must carry in the Governors is three more than assigned him for next Wednesdays race. Irving Gushen will be represented in Saturdays feature with the Irish-bred Soldier Son, also an eligible for the richer race, and the appearance of Tony DeSpirito as rider will attract considerable support. Soldier Son began a comeback trek after a series of mishaps sidelined him last year with an impressive triumph at Keeneland this spring. In his lone outing over the local strip this season, Soldier Son was sec-one to Cross Ring at six furlongs, run in the slop. S. Tufanos Rush Prince, 115; Melpet Stables Noch Eins, 113; Jerry Lynchs Sonic, 113, and Argentine Stables Impulsivo, 112, are in Saturdays test, and still remain eligible for the Massachusetts. Of this group, it is expected that only Impulsivio is rated better than an even chance of starting next Wednesday. Rush Prince is a stablemate to the more highly-regarded Wise Margin, whom the Tufano stable is expected to start in the Massachusetts. Noch Eins, while one of the more consistent performers in New England at present, has gained his present status by his sprinting ability. Sonic is always a threat when lightly weighted, but his appearance in the longer event of the Massachusetts would probably depend on the caliber of opposition to be shipped in for the event. While Impulsivo is still a candidate for the Governors Handicap, his trainer, George Small, has hinted that he may decide to scratch before the prescribed time and work the Argentine on Sunday. The remainder of the field for the Governors Cap is comprised of Little Step, 111; Miss Joanne, 110; Morrie Sidells News Again, Mrs. P. Weyerman6 Village, 110, and J. and P. Venutis Fran Jr., at 109 pounds.
