RICH BELMONT STAKES SATURDAY Sixty-Seventh Running of Noted Race to Be Worth Over 0,000 to Winner Omaha to Rule Strong Favorite Rosemont and Firethorn Among Starters NEW YORK, N. Y., June 6. The Belmont Stakes of 1935, to be run Saturday and which will be worth more than 0,000, will be the feature of the final day of the Belmont Park spring meeting, and one of the banner crowds of this or any other year is expected to be on hand to witness the running of the sixty-seventh running of the greatest and richest of three-year-old events. The start will be In front of the stand, from the Bahr gate. That James Fitzsimmons will saddle an entry of two three-year-olds for the Belmont Stakes is a strong possibility. While the trainer of the Belair Stable will not say positively that Sir Beverley would be sent along with Omaha, he let it be known that he was seriously considering doing so. While it is taken for granted that Omaha will, be a strong favorite, .whether or not he is accompanied by Sir Beverley, there will be plenty of support for the opposition and the Omaha odds will not be prohibitive. Some others have "proved their fitness to go the mile and a half and there may be speed enough ,to get away from the winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. The fastest work hung up by any of the candidates was that of Cold Shoulder. The A. G. Vanderbilt candidate covered the mile and a half in 2:29 and is reported as being right on edge for the race. "Bud" Stotler says the son of Display and Glacial is a wonderfully improved horse arid one that seems to want to go a distance. Rosemont, victor over Omaha in the Withers, is another one that the Foxcatcher Stable connections have great confidence in to defeat the Belair star a second time. He also is reported as being fit as he can be made and ready for the issue. Walter M. Jeffords Firethorn will make up the quintet of starters expected to face the barrier and he also is in readiness and will receive a perfect ride from "Sonny" Workman, who has been engaged as the pilot. The Belair Studs Omaha will parade post-ward in the Belmont Stakes on Saturday a pronounced choice over the opposition that will be mustered against him. Present indications point to a small field to race for the cash and glory of the Easts leading stake. Trainer Fitzsimmons stated that Saunders and Horn would likely be the riders in the Belmont should he start both of his charges. Rosemont, which conquered Omaha in the Withers, may again be handled by Wayne Wright, contract rider for J. E. Widener. Gold Foam, which scored in impressive fashion on Monday over Silversmith, is looked upon as a certain starter and will carry the colors of Alvin Unter- Continued on fifteenth page. RICH BELMONT STAKES SATURDAY Continued from first page. myer, the young sportsman. Sammy Renick, who worked Cold Shoulder in a sensational fashion on Wednesday, will pilot this fellow. North Wales U. is now looked upon as a doubtful starter, while the Greentree Stable may be without a representative, according to trainer Brennan. The following is Shandons quotations for the Belmont: Omaha, 1 to 2; Rosemont, 3 to 1; Firethorn, 8 to 1; Cold Shoulder, 20 to 1; Gillie and Plat Eye, 15 to 1, and North Wales II., 50 to 1.
