ALBERT D. DISQUALIFIED AT WASHINGTON PARK 1 t 1 RICKEY R00 WINNER . Awarded First Place With Proposing Second and Harold Wiley Third. Whopper Scores His Second Success of Career in Decisively Defeating Four Others. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 6. The disqualification of Albert D. in the fourth race and the success of Whopper, giant son of Pharamond DI. and Homance,.by Luke Mc-Luke, achieving his second win of his first and three-year-old campaign in" decisively defeating four others of his age in the seven furlongs-Grand Ledge Purse were the outstanding incidents at Washington Park here today. Racing smartly over a slow, uncertain track, the mammoth bearer of Hal Price Headleys navy blue and white colors, figuratively coasted home, Motley, which - finished second, trailing two lengths away. Born Happy was the one to occupy third place and he was another length and one-half back but far before Foggy Night and Overthrow, which completed the field. The race featured a stronger than average off day program but cold, wet weather prevailed and the Headley triumph was witnessed by one of the smallest crowds of the meeting. Whopper was among several public choices to reward. Except for a short distance as the small field rounded the stretch turn the five contestants were well strung out. Overthrow was sent along in the early lead with Born Happy next and the winner next. Swingings into the stretch Overthrow relinquished the lead ;but Born Happy, which succeeded the former, held it for only a few strides before bowing to the winner. Rushed from last in the quintet to second in less, than a sixteenth of a mile, Motley offered only a mild challenge in his futile effort to reach the victor but under a better judged ride might have been more of a contender. Whopper carried 113 pounds and raced the distance in 1:27. His win completed a double for jockey C. Landolt. MARTINEZ ABSOLVED. A disqualification, justified and popular, enlivened proceedings. Albert D., carrying L. E. Komorous colors in competition with seven other plater three-year-olds and at six furlongs in the fourth race, was the one set back. He raced home two lengths before the strongly backed Rickey Roo, but had swerved sharply to the inside after forcing the favorite out of the lead in the final eighth, hence the disqualification. Jockey A. Martinez, who rode the Komorous horse, was absolved of blame for the failure of his mount to keep on a straight course and escaped punishment. In setting back Albert D. and awarding the race to Rickey Roo; second, third and fourth awards also were redistributed, with Proposing, Harold Wileyand Monks Shawl final holders of the minor awards. Dixianas Brendard raced to her second victory in four starts when, as the second choice in the betting, she gained a handy score over six other youngsters in the five furlongs opening race. E. Arcaro rushed the victorious daughter of Epinard into immediate command and, racing over the deceptive track with good speed, she was never seriously endangered. At the finish Higher Cloud was nearest the Dixiana representative. Minor honors went to Sandy Boy, with the highly favored Sir Gawaine next. The latter tired after reaching the stretch in third place and was a good length away from Sandy Boy at the finish. HOMER L. BY A NOSE. J After making up half a dozen lengths with a fine run down the outside of the field in the stretch, Homer L. pushed his nose in front in time to take the six furlongs second race, for which he had a wide call in the betting, over the outsider, L. B. Wilson. Holding on stubbornly, the latter barely failed to reach the finish in front He crossed the line of finish a length before Continued on fifteenth page.. : RICKEY R00 WINNER Continued from first page. Weelukie, which weakened slightly after making most of the pace but was good enough to defeat Fritter Circle by two lengths for third. Very much at home on the soft, "greasy" track, Mrs. T. Otts Bunting gelding Sher-ron easily defeated Kapena, Kozak and four others over the six furlongs of the third race for his first win of the year. The Ott four-year-old raced to the front when called upon in the stretch and pulled away steadily to win by two and one-half lengths over Kapena. Kozak, a good two lengths farther back, defeated Uiuniu a head for third. C. Landolt rode the winner. Kapena was the choice. Epernay, three-year-old son of Epinard and Washoe Belle, which in his yearling and juvenile preparation days was one of the fastest trained in Kentucky, raced to his first victory of the year, when he scored , over six others of his age in the fourth race. Saddled by Roscoe Goose, he was the second of the week to win under J. Marscha colors. Away fast and under a hustling ride at the hands of J. Renick, the Marsch gelding raced, into command before completing the first two of the six furlongs and held sway easily for five-eighths, following which he had to be briskly shaken up to remain in advance of the fast finishing Single Ragan. Tiring in the drive, Sarahmond, which followed the winner into the stretch, was two lengths farther back at the end where Blue Lillian led the others. The latter and Sarahmond were slight choices over the winner Jockey C. Rollins is slated to leave for Winnipeg within the next week. He will report to the division of the A. G.. Tam stable awaiting the meeting there,
