t LAT0NIA TURF NOTES s , Jockey Fernando Fernandez, crack Cuban rider, will resume his saddle work Friday after serving a five-day suspension for rough riding. So great was the demand for his services, that he is engaged on seven mounts. William Woodard checked in with two horses, which he brought from Lexington, Ky. They are Knack and Shorty. Ridge Villa, a two-year-old which gave good promise in training, sustained injuries Wednesday which probably will keep him out of competition for the remainder of the year. Having gotten loose" at the stable, and while running around the barns, he ran among some furniture located outside a stable and received a severely cut tendon. Former jockey Willie Crump, one of the more successful of the younger trainers, has the largest string under his charge since joining the ranks of conditioners. At this time, he is directing the training of sixteen, which includes the crack sprinter Cherry Time, which has been on the shelf since arriving from Churchill Downs. The horse contracted a severe cold, which necessitated the discontinuance of his training. Crump reports Cherry Time is rounding to form and will be subjected to some speed trials soon. The stewards granted riding licenses to jockeys J. VanKirk, C. Hawkins and J. Lane and the trio donned colors for the first time at the meeting Thursday.
