1 DETROIT TURF NOTES $ s A. J. Halliwell shipped Lugano, "Divert and Prince Drake to Long Branch. E. Sigmans Sassenach, which broke down while filling her Wednesdays engagement, was presented to W. J. Dowling, who will attempt to save her for breeding purposes. Walter Taylor, who has Sun Portland here for Mrs. Silas B. Mason, received word from his brother Tommy that he will leave Belmont Park Sunday with Head Play, Coulee-dam, "Vale Victorian, He Did and Time to Go. Head Play will be named for the Derby Week Special and is an intended nominee for the 5,000 added Detroit Challenge Cup. The sale of box seats and reserved seats for the Detroit Derby is moving along with such promise that a sellout for the race is almost a certainty. With the arrival of Black-birder and Sun Portland, and the expected arrival of Roman Soldier Monday, the "steady stream of Derby candidates will continue to arrive until the middle of next week. The stewards recommended to racing commissioner Joseph D. Frost that the trainers license of W. E. Bobo be revoked. They did not offer any explanation for their action. The stewards had trainer L. L. Lycan and jockey Whittaker before them for an explanation of Standouts race on Wednesday. Lycan stated that the horse broke down a year and a half ago, and since then sulks if hit with a whip. Whittaker stated that he also had instructions, which Lycan con- firmed, that the horse has only one run and that he cannot be taken to the front until near the finish of the race. Frank Otis, the patrol judge, stated that Whittaker seemed to be doing everything possible with the horse when he passed him. The stewards have dismissed the matter. Hi-Well was permitted to be excused from filling his engagement in the first race, due to a death in the family of his owner,
