DON VERN, close to the leaders in the early stages, moved into the lead when reaching the stretch, drew clear in the closing eighth and had speed in reserve at the end. FEDERAL RESERVE improved his position readily after the first quarter mile, but could not threaten the winner seriously in the final drive. HANOVER JEAN raced LAST STAND into early submission, saved ground, but was not good enough when caught. LAST STAND was rushed hard while on the inside, but tired in the late stages. BROADCASTER was on the outside and clear all the way. THERMAL raced evenly. LIGHT BLUE could not menace. FANNY showed a brief flash of speed. The others were held safe. NELL KUHLMAN, suited by the footing but outrun for the First five-eighths, swung to the outside when moving up strongly in the last quarter mile and, closing fast, was up in the last fifty yards. THE MINER rallied strong when nearing the stretch, responded to punishment and finished with good courage. SHEPHERD BOY was ratcil in front while saving ground, shook off BIG ONE and EYRYHOLME, but tired in the final sixteenth. EYRYHOLME, steadied for the first half mile, made a strong bid entering the stretch, but tired nearing the end. BIG ONE quit after a half mile. PAGAN KING took command immediately, was steadied in front while withstanding strong contention from GOANWIN, came out into the firmer footing when reaching the stretch and drew away nicely. ALDWYCH worked her way up on the outside, rallied nicely, but could not menace the winner. GOANWIN had good speed while following the pacemaker, but tired during the stretch drive. WORTH TRYING, on the outside until reaching the stretch, swerved to the inside at the final eighth post and tired. JESMORE was unable to reach contention. UVA showed speed in the first quarter mile. LUGANO broke slowly, saved ground while improving his position in the first three-quarters, swung to the outside for the final drive and, closing strongly, was up inside the final sixteenth. AIR KING displaced GALTHEA midway of the back stretch, shook off bold contention from GRAND VIEW, but failed to withstand the winner. FORT DEARBORN was steered wide in the first three-quarters, saved ground in the late stages and held on with good courage. GRAND VIEW tired in the closing eighth after racing in the first flight from the start. ATTIC BIRD made several diallengos in the last half mile, but faltered in the last sixteenth. HITTIE raced in nearest pursuit of the winner from the beginning, was placed to punishment in the last quarter mile, but tired steadily. SPRING MOON raced forwardly from the beginning, but was not good enough. TRICKYS SON was unable to reach a forward position and passed tiring horses. DONSTICK lacked speed and was never a factor. ANNIMESSIC, restrained off the pace for the first three-quarters, went to the leaders without effort took an easy lead and came out readily during the stretch run. SNOBBY SCAMP withstood repeated efforts from ZANGWILL, raced strongly all the way and held on with good energy for the closing test. BLUE DAMSEL was racing gamely at the end.
