SINGING WOOD TOP WEIGHT Erratic Whitney Horse Probable Favorite in New England State Handicap at Rockingham Today. SALEM, N. H., June 2. The six furlongs New England State Handicap, which features the midweek program at Rockingham, has drawn a field of thirteen horses. The event has an added value of ,500, and the field includes several of the best sprinters that have shown their wares in these parts. John Hay Whitneys Singing Wood, extremely fast when he is in a running mood but a very sulky fellow, is the top weight, carrying 128 pounds and conceding thirteen pounds to Lady Higloss, his nearest rival in the weights. C. V. Whitney is bringing "Sonny" Workman here especially to ride Trumpery in the stake. Trumpery won the Speed Handicap, in which Singing Wood finished fourth. However, the J. H. Whitney performer will probably rule choice despite his disappointing performance in his first outing here and despite the heavy weight he is to carry. The flashy Lady Higloss, from the stable, of Miss A. Doris, victor in two handicaps at Narragansett, will carry 115 pounds tomorrow. She is regarded as a dangerous factor and should rule one of the choices. Speed to Spare, an erratic fellow that won the Roseben Handicap here, will be coupled in the betting with Dreel as the A. G. Van-derbilt entry. Archibald and Spatola will also send out an entry in Candy Prince and Wise Prince. The others in the field are Happy Knot, Spixi, Accolade, Happy Bolivar, Sailor Beware and Chance Line. It appears on paper an open affair, and the favorite should be around 3 to 1.
