SOPHIST, away well, was permitted to drop back nearing the far turn, came to the outside in the stretch and closed with good energy. BANK HOLIDAY displayed good early speed, though unable to keep pace when challenged. ANNAR1TA, away fast, dropped back in the first three-eighths, then closed with good energy thereafter. FRED ALMY could never reach the leaders, though holding to a prominent position early. BE THERE tired. CARLESTA was shuffled back at the start. GREENOCK dropped back in the opening strides, moved up fast approaching the far turn, drew on oven terms with TAKUS nearing the stretch, shook off the latter and had enough left to withstand DEAN SWIFTS bid. The latter, outrun early, moved up gamely in the last three-eighths and finished with a rush. TAKUS had speed from the start, was hard ridden in racing DARK WAR into submission and had nothing left when challenged by the first two. COUNT DEAN held on willingly in the drive. DARK WAR had good early speed, but was under hustling tactics in order to show the way, faltering in the last five-sixteenths. The others were never prominent. KHAY lacked speed to hold a forward position early, swung to the outside when reaching the stretch and, closing with a rush out in the center of the track, was up in the closing stride. PRETTY PAL displayed speed from the start and was under hard riding in disposing of MOFO and, despite holding on courageously under punishment, just failed to last. FOXO moved up stoutly on the outside rounding the far turn, but was unable to improve her position in the closing test under punishment. MOONBURN was well placed all the way and had no excuses. MOCK MODESTY was unable to reach the leaders, though prominently placed throughout. MOFO had early speed, but was much used in racing with the pacemaker and faltered when the real test came. The latter moved up gamely on the outside rounding the far turn and held on stubbornly in the drive, though bearing out through the stretch. LITTLE DINAH, in closest pursuit of the winner from the start, saved ground into the stretch and just failed to last for the place. SANCTITY was unable to threaten at any stage of the journey. The latter, slow to begin and badly outrun for the first half mile, began moving up on the outside thereafter, closed with a rush in the stretch and was just a stride or so of being up in time. BOSTON BROOK forced the early pace, took command when FLAMENCO began tiring, though unable to keep up when challenged. NEW DEAL was never able to reach the leaders. FICKLE CHANCE, well placed early, moved up gamely after going three-quarters, only to weaken through the stretch. FLAMENCO had speed for the first five-eighths, flattening out badly thereafter. DIABLERIE drew away into a long load, faltering in the last three-sixteenths. JEZREEL, well placed, faltered when the real test came. HIATUS raced wide all the way and showed a dull effort. PAY RACK followed in nearest attendance of the early pacemaker, raced to the front after rounding the far turn and, despite holding on determinedly, was not good enough for the winner. LONE HAND moved up on the outside and closed willingly. MOUNTAIN ELK was prominently placed all the way, but was unable to match strides with the leaders throueh the last eighth.
