FAVORITES TO THE FORE Public Choices at Detroit Fare Well in Tuesdays Racing. Chastity Registers Second Straight Success in Defeating Center Lane and Pokeaway. DETROIT, Mich., June 2. Favorites, which have been in the minority, enjoyed one of their best days since the opening of the Detroit season this afternoon. Making it four in a row for the talent and registering her second straight success, Mrs. T. Stevensons Canadian-owned Chastity, a five-year-old daughter of Chance Play, lasted to beat Center Lane by a half length at the end of the mile and a sixteenth of the fifth race, which was one of the best races. Pokeaway was third, three lengths in the wake of Center Lane and the same margin before Jack Conner. Pompegret, the other starter, refused to break with his field and was pulled up after being whipped away from the stall machine. Eddie Burns was forced to keep the mare under good urging from the start and, after wearing down the pacemaking Pokeaway, she was inclined to loaf and was giving way fast to Center Lane at the close. There was an immediate start to the race with Pokeaway sprinting into a good lead during the opening five-sixteenths. Jack Conner was in closest pursuit with the winner showing the way to Center Lane. Leaving the back stretch, Chastity moved around Jack Conner to take second place and, entering the stretch, she forged ahead of Pokeaway. However, she swerved to the inside and B. Thornton was forced to ease Pokeaway. Thereafter he weakened rapidly and was well beaten by Center Lane at the end. Cloudy weather prevailed as the program opened, but the crowd was another large one and favorites enjoyed a banner afternoon. The track was left in a muddy condition for the training period, but it was whipped into Continued on thirty-eighth page. Splashing her way through the sloppy, going, which was caused by a torrential rain as the field paraded postward, Gay Bubble, Mrs. E. B. Carpenters Idle Hour Farm-bred daughter of Bubbling Over, was an easy winner of the fourth, the first of the three main attractions. Speed Limit was second and Witson third. Ridden by Leonard Turner and rushed into a clear lead during the first quarter of the six-furlong sprint, the winner steadily increased her lead to reach the finish two lengths before Speed Limit, which followed in closest pursuit throughout. Witson wore B Eighty down to be a half length back of Speed Limit and five lengths before B Eighty at the end. A mild surprise and thrilling finish came with the introductory race, for lowly platers, when Mrs. H. Torrientes Dixie Fox got up to beat the tiring High Bottom by a head. Claremont was third, a neck back of High Bottom and a. nose before Ana.X., at the end of six furlongs. Unable to improve her early position, Dixie Fox, which was ridden by C. Mojena, drove through the field during the run for home to be drawing away from her competitors at the end. From the start the race was a hard fought contest, with Treasury Key, Claremont and High Bottom alternating at pacemaking. Claremont was a slight favorite over Ana X. Mayfield Stables Ldnmeg made it two in a row and provided a popular score when she was an easy winner over Bonnie Pan, Maddening and seven others in the three-quarters second race. From a slow beginning the winner moved up fast and, wearing Bonnie Pan down steadily, forged to the front in the final furlong, to be a length and a half before her at the end. Sioux Chief and Red Garter held prominent positions for a half mile, but they gave way fast and it was no task for Maddening and Whizz James to sweep by them. Gray Porte, which came in for good support, showed little. Adding another score for the choices, Eugene Lutz Prince Heather was an extremely easy winner of the third race, also over six furlongs. Courtneys Pet was second, six lengths in the wake of the winner and two lengths before the lightly-regarded Hocking. A limit field of mediocre platers were under colors, .with Wicces sprinting into a long lead during the first quarter. The winner, vhich was ridden by J. Rosen, raced outside Wicces and Courtneys Pet to take command entering the stretch. Increasing his advantage rapidly, he reached the end well in hand. The condition of apprentice V. Neal, who suffered a fractured collar bone when Gay Streamer fell with him Monday, was reported to be improved Tuesday.
