HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES . $ The crack three-year-old, Coldstream, owned by Charles B. Shaffer of Chicago and now on the sidelines as a result of an injury received in the Suburban Handicap, goes to Coldstream Stud in Kentucky within a short time, according to trainer A. B. Gordon. Slim Rosie, Ike Weils star sprinter, has been punch fired for a splint and will be out of training about ten days. Chicago Stables Gyral, a Chicago Derby nominee, worked a mile at Hawthorne Sunday in 1:42. Working on a fast track and accompanied by Red Rod for seven furlongs, Gyral went the quarter in :24, half mile in :49 and three-quarters in 1:11. Red Rod was timed in 1:29. Denny Buford is a late addition to the large number of regulars attending Hawthorne daily. He came from Latonia. Saturdays turnover in the mutuels and "Daily Doubie" at Hawthorne aggregated 77,000. Copies of the first issue of conditions for all overnight races during the first ten days of the Arlington Park Jockey Clubs meeting opening two weeks from Monday, were distributed at Hawthorne by George White Monday. David W. Butler, cinema director of Twentieth Century Fox and turf patron, is a visitor. His stable, in charge of Albert Dunne, is expected at Hawthorne from Latonia in a few days. Howard Wells returned from Latonia where he saddled Tearout for his engagement in the Enquirer Handicap. The horse will remain at Latonia for the present. Trainer M. Walsh was informed of the death of his sister, Mrs. Mary McCarron, in New York Monday morning. Jockey Nick Wall, under engagement to the Coldstream Stud and E. D. Shaffer stable now at Arlington Park, arrived from New York and will accept mounts here. He was accompanied by his agent, Charles Tudor. D. H. Pershall of Fort Worth, brother of C. W. Pershall, prominent turf patron, is here for a weeks stay. Fair Boy, owned by Mrs. R. A. Darling and Mrs. R. A. Lynchs Chief Geronimo have been turned over to former jockey Fred Merimee to train. Carl Laemmle, Sr., famous producer and . motion picture magnate, was an interested spectator at Hawthorne Monday. He is staying for several days and his son is coming on from the Coast next week.
