NUCKOLS GETS TEXAS POST Veteran Kentucky Official Likely to Replace Joseph A. Murphy at Arlington Downs. FORT WORTH, Texas, June 16 Samuel C. Nuckols, Kentucky racing official who has served at many American tracks and also at Oriental Park, Cuba, may be named as one of the stewards for the Texas Jockey Clubs fall meeting at Arlington Downs, according to E. Paul Waggoner, one of the owners of the track. In statements made just prior to his departure yesterday on a trip that will take him to racing points of the Central West and East, Waggoner said that the Texas i Jockey Club had opened negotiations with Nuckols, who now is serving at Latonia. According to Waggoner, the Texas Jockey Club will, if negotiations go through, engage Nuckols as a steward to replace, in that capacity only, judge Joseph A. Murphy, who recently resigned. Judge Murphy was director of racing at the Texas track. Another steward to work with Nuckols and the steward of the Texas state racing commission also is to be selected. With Waggoner and his brother, Guy L. Waggoner, chairman of the Texas Racing Commission, giving more of their time to racing and the operation of the palatial course they own, they are expected to associate themselves with resident manager Trav Daniel in handling all executive details aside from the supervision of racing. Charles McLennan, as racing secretary, handicapper and placing judge, and Roy Dickerson, as starter, have been re-engaged for the fall meeting. Before leaving yesterday, E. P. Waggoner accompanied by Daniel and Bud Burmeister, inspected improvements under construction at Arlington Downs. Combining of the courses two tracks into one is one of the more important changes. The new track will be one mile and one-sixteenth in circumference. Daniel and Burmeister will accompany Waggoner on his swing around the circuit of leading tracks now operating.
