The latter, rated close to the pace, held on well after taking a short lead in the stretch, but was not good enough. BISTRITA, badly outrun for three-quarters, lost much ground when entering the stretch and swerved repeatedly while rapidly improving her position thereafter. PAPYROGRAPH, a factor from the start, failed to withstand MAREVE soon after reaching the stretch, but was racing gamely when pinched back in the final eiehth. DOUBLE KERRY, forced back when racing between PLEA and SKY PIRATE in the first quarter, swung to the outside after saving some ground on the turn and, closing resolutely under strong handling, wore down SKY PIRATE to win drawing clear. The latter had speed from the start, saved ground throughout and held on well, though failing to withstand the winners challenge. GALMICA, taken back as NET PROFIT blocked him on the turn, came to the outside in the stretch and closed fastest of all in a fine effort. NAUGHTY had no mishaps and showed an even effort. PLEA had speed, but tired in the final eighth. NET PROFIT swerved to the inside on the turn and, lacking speed, was far back thereafter. Overweight Double Kerry, 1 pound. ONWENTSIA, forced to lose ground, improved her position gradually and swerved over slightly when shaking off MORNING MAIL in the final eighth. The latter displayed good speed, saved ground after three-eighths and only gave way slowly in the drive. LISA BELLE could not get to the leaders but held on well. BOW AND ARROW, quick to recover after breaking into GYRAL at the start, cut out a fast pace under snug restraint for almost three-quarters, failed to withstand DNIEPERS challenge after reaching the stretch, but held on well and, after regaining the lead in the final eighth, held HOLL IMAGE safe. He worked out a mile and one-quarter in 2:07. HOLL IMAGE, slow to begin and far back for three-quarters, came to the outside when entering the stretch and bore over badly when rapidly improving his position in the last three-sixteenths. CARVOLA, well up from the start, was racing easily i..to the final eighth when caught in close quarters between HOLL IMAGE- and DNIEPER, but should have escaped the interference and under a more alert ride might have been a much stronger factor. DNIEPER forced the early pace in hand, took a short lead under pressure, but tired in the last eighth. BABY TALK lost much ground. GYRAL tired in the stretch.
