The latter, well placed in the early running lost ground, slipped through on the inside during the stretch run and, finishing gamely, would have won in another stride. BRIGHT KNOT, under slight early restraint, moved up gamely when called upon, but could not improve his position. POMPOHONE was going gamely at the end. DONERINA tired badly in the last eighth. JESSIE COPPAGE, hustled into the lead at the first turn, drew clear in the . back stretch, but tired in the last eighth.
