WIDENER FILLY SCORES Fitter Defeats Crack Field in Atlantic Purse at Cicero. Favored Whiscenda Unplaced Ted-all Second but Is Disqualified Gin Daisy Moved Up. Fitter, a game daughter of Sickle Saleslady owned and bred by Joseph E. Widener, scored her second triumph in three starts and defeated a small but able field in taking one of the best races decided before a large crowd for the day under ideal conditions at Hawthorne Friday afternoon. Scoring a cleancut victory, the Widener filly won by two lengths, with Valdina Farms Gin Daisy third, but after reaching second place within less than seventy yards of the -wire Tedall impeded Gin Daisy and, coming at a very critical time, though he appeared to have the Three D s miss bested, the foul brought about his disqualification. All this did not bring E. Harrills Whiscenda, which was the favorite, into the money, as Frisco Kid, a Bomar Stable youngster, was awarded third money, with the fourth or consolation portion of the purse going to Bottle Cap. While Whiscenda, which in his previous start had finished third to Dogaway and Yellow Tulip in the Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap, was the preference of most of the players, Fitters following was a large one and her victory popular. The favorite bounced to the front at the start but never succeeded in getting very far away from Gin Daisy and Fitter, and the two fillies, along with Tedall, passed him soon after the field had straightened for the run through the stretch. Continuing to drop back, he led only one of his rivals at the end. For a time it looked as though Gin Daisy would give the winner more trouble, but Fitter slipped away from the Three Ds representative after about five furlongs and was in no danger from Tedall, which only managed to head the tiring Gin Daisy. Good performances were turned in by Frisco Kid and Bottle Cap, both of them finishing equally as fast as the winner. Ridden by L. Haas and carrying 112 pounds, the winner raced the five and one-half furlongs in 1:071$. Scoring his second win of the season and racing the three-quarters in the fast time of 1:12, Old Gold Stables four-year-old Trans-mutable was returned a decisive winner over Toro Nancy, Sunned, Recovery and three others in the Chicago Beach Purse, which shared chief interest of the patrons. Sprinting past Toro Nancy to the front in the stretch, the successful Transmute gelding came on to win by four lengths. He had the services of A. Fermin and ruled a generous priced second choice to Toro Nancy. Had the latter won she would have completed a double for N. W. Churchs Northway Stable. .Continued on thirty-eighth page. W1DENER FILLY SCORES Continued from first page. It was the winner and Toro Nancy from the start, and they placed the others so far away after three-eighths that all of them faced a hopeless task thereafter. Near the close, however, Toro Nancy weakened and Sunned, which finished well following a sluggish start, drew up to finish within a length and one-half of the California filly. Recovery, Calumet Dick, Chief Cherokee and South Gallant completed the field. Running in fast time, Sir Oracle, a son of Bull Dog and Skyblue Pink, for which his present owner, Norman W. Church, gave ,200 at the Saratoga Sales, left the maiden ranks with a decisive victory over seven other juveniles in the first race for non-winners. He was a 3 to 5 chance in the beting and traveling the distance in 1:07 won by four lengths. Skeeter raced to the place, with Viajero third. Only one of his rivals, Viajero, ever showed in front of the Northway Stable colt, but after following Viajero to the stretch, Sir Oracle swept into the lead and rapidly increased his margin as Skeeter was wearing down the early pacemaker. Some crowding at the start injured the chances of Saunders-town, Idyllic and Gold Flag. B. James, Hawthornes star apprentice and leading rider of the meeting, had a close escape from injury when he went down with Sailors Gift, his mount in the second, race, won by Lucy T. Sailors Gift stumbled when racing in close quarters and falling heavily the filly lay prostrate for several minutes. James, however, was on his feet in a jiffy and unhurt, proceeded to the riders quarters to prepare himself for his next mount. Lucy T.s victory came in one of the closest finishes of the meeting, she and Inflame completing the six and one-half furlongs almost deadlocked. Ralph C. finished third. Wheeling at the start, Tornillo was left. An outsider, J. Benedettos Hour Zev, was a driving winner over Double Nugget, Ogee, Macks Pal and four others in the third race, for which Double Nugget had a big call in the betting.
