FOOTING SUITS ENGLES BOY Revels in Heavy Going at Agawam and Canters to Victory in Plunkett Purse. AGAWAM, Mass., June 19. Af ter two previous failures, Engles Boy, bay gelding that runs in the interest of Mrs. I. P. Engle, displayed a keen liking for the heavy footing, which prevailed here today at Agawam Park, winning the Plunkett Purse, feature event, from a field of seven sprinters that raced over the six furlongs distance. Dona Dulcin, from the Mrs. E. M. Hay-man Stable, was second, while Unlawful was third for C. Andrade III., with A. Kay-fetz Secret Vote fourth. Als Pride sped away from the gate showing in front, but Engles Boy, with the negro rider, E. Johnson, up, was right behind him. The pair opening up a good gap on the rest of the field, which was vell strung out. All down the backstretch and well around the upper turn, Als Pride held sway, but when Johnson moved up to challenge with Engles Boy, the former could not stall him off, and the son of Tall Timber moved past to canter home some four lengths in the van, while Dona Dulcin, coming fast through the stretch, was an easy second, but the real contest was for the third money with Als Pride, Secret Vote and Unlawful all coming to the imaginary line so close that the judges had to call on the camera for aid, with Unlawful getting the decision. Dull overcast skies still greeted the faithful, while the course was fetlock deep in mud, slow time being the rule throughout the afternoon.
