E. PAUL WAGGONER AND PARTY Visit Hawthorne on Missionary Trip in Interest of Arlington Downs Fall Meeting. E. Paul Waggoner, one of the owners of Arlington Downs, along with Trav Daniel, resident manager for the track, and Bud Burmestcr, who handles the publicity for the various Waggoner Three Ds organizations, are at Hawthorne for several days. The party, which is on a missionary trip in the interests of the Texas Jockey Club, plans to visit Suffolk Downs, which point will be contacted in ten days, then to New York, where the Texans will witness the racing at Empire City, back to Lexington, Kentucky, where Waggoner will inspect the Three Ds broodmares, Girl Scout, Thats That, Pansy Walker and Canf li, all of which are at Mereworth Stud, returning home through Louisville, Ky. Waggoner also will inspect several foals he purchased from the Mereworth and Greenwich Studs. Girl Scout and Thats That, with foals at side, have been bred to Chance Play, the famous Gerry sire, and Pansy Walker and Canfli, the former with a foal at side, have been bred to Display. All four mares will remain in Kentucky until foaling time in 1927, after which they will be bred to Sickle, Bull Dog and Ariel, according to present plans. Waggoner and Daniel were favorably impressed with the splendid quality of racing prevailing at Hawthorne, as well as the cool weather and it is possible a switch in arrangements will bring the party back to Chicago for the Arlington Park meeting inasmuch as racing secretary Charles J. McLennan, now at Arlington Park, is secretary also at the Waggoner track in Texas. McLennan recently completed the conditions for the stakes to be run during the forthcoming fall meeting at Arlington Downs, starting on October 22 and holding forth until November 21, and which headlines the 5,000 Waggoner Memorial. The stake blanks are now being printed, and will be distributed later. With the central centennial celebration now being staged in Dallas, and the Fort Worth Frontier celebration being readied for presentation at Fort Worth, Texas will prove a magnet for visitors for the rest of the year.
