LOGWOOD EARNS TOP HONORS Foisy Colorbearer Demonstrates Superiority Over Opponents at Mount Royal Adverse Track. MONTREAL, Que., Oct. 1. Logwood, seven-year-old gelded son of Cudgel and Lotta, racing for G. Foisy and having better racing luck than In his previous starts, accounted for the running of the St. Jacque Cafe Handicap, feature for the fifth day of the meeting of the Back River Jockey Club at the Mount Royal course, when he splashed his way to an easy victory at the end of the five and one-half furlongs. G. Gauthiers recently acquired Leo D. took the place honors, two lengths and a half back, and a neck in advance of C. M. Withers Arbranch. Logwood was ridden by jockey F. Munden and raced the distance in 1:11 over a racing strip deep and heavy in mud. The smallest crowd, of the current meeting was on hand for the days sport which was run under disagreeable weather conditions. Logwood was away in good order and was rated in close attendance of the pace for the first two furlongs. Here Munden sent the Foisy gelding through on the inside and gaining command steadied him along in the lead to the final furlong. Then calling on him again drew away to win in handy fashion. Leo D. raced in second place throughout, made a determined attempt to reach the lead at the last furlong, then faltered and just managed to stall off Arbranch for the place award. The latter came well in the last furlong, making up ground to take third place.
