Two of the largest stables which will race at Sportsmans Park during the eighteen-day meeting of the National Jockey Club, opening Monday, October 12, will be strings maintained by Chicago patrons. One is that of William OToole, whose Blue Ridge Farm Stable has made reservations for twenty head and the other of Alderman J. J. A number of other large Illinois-owned stables also will take part In the National Jockey Clubs fall season, among them those of the Chappel Bros., Sam Gorbet, Glen Gor-bet and John Oros. All of these are familiar figures at Sportsmans Park meetings. As plans go forward for the opening of .the meeting horses continue to make their appearance both at Sportsmans Park and at Hawthorne where the overflow will be provided for. The management has gone to much expense in beautifying the buildings and grounds and numerous improvements will greet the eyes of patrons this fall. All of the buildings and stands have received fresh applications of paint and all work on the grounds will be completed in ample time for the inaugural. The attractive condition book which racing secretary Robert S. Shelley has compiled has met the unqualified approval of horsemen which probably accounts for the eagerness with which many await the Sportsmans Park season. It is estimated that when the meeting opens, more than 1,000 horses will be available for racing.
