WOWO ANNEXES TOP HONORS Swerves Repeatedly While Enjoying Good Lead and Just Lasts. Disagreeable Conditions Again Prevail for Racing at River Downs Oval Mary Soulard Graduates. CINCINNATI, Ohio, Oct. 22. Once again rain prevented the River Downs racing strip from reaching its best condition, and todays program .was offered under the most unpro-pitious conditions of the meeting. The track was slow. One of the best fields was under colors in the third race. This resulted in the first popular score of the day when Wowo was a driving winner over Dower, Par-Queen and five other juveniles. The daughter of Golden Guinea drove through on the inside to take the lead approaching the final half mile. After reaching the stretch she swerved repeatedly, and Dower, which held on in game style, was only a half length back of her at the end. Par-Queen and OBantam made their runs on the inside in the stretch, with the former being a half length back of Dower and a neck before OBantam. Contrast won his first race for Jack W. Barnes when he showed sudden improvement, to annex the fourth race, for which Brilliant Stone, which finished second, was a well supported choice. Thjrd went to Tappanaugh. Completing a double for Bert Thornton, who was astride Mary Soulard in the opener, the winner moved up fast after reaching the stretch to wear Brilliant Stone down and lead her by two lengths at the end. The latter enjoyed the same advantage over Tappanaugh, which held third position the greater part of the six furlongs sprint. Donna James led the field of ten to the final furlong where Brilliant Stone went into command. Gaelic, home-bred juvenile son of Leonardo II. Way of an Eagle, graduated from the maiden ranks and furnished a big surprise when he carried Mrs. Bessie Franzheims colors to a driving victory over seven other juveniles at one mile and forty yards in the fifth event. Catchem was second and Brill third. Gladsome and Honduras, co-favorites, finished -fourth and fifth, and, while the former led the field to the stretch, Honduras was never a factor. Thornton completed a triple when Bender First won the sixth event. Laura Kiev was second and Prince Dean third. Bichloride was the favorite, but he dropped back after being carried out by Grasswrack approaching the back stretch.
