NARRAGANSETT PARK OPENING Pinal Meeting of Year in New Eng. land Sector Begins Today With Worcester Handicap Feature. PAWTUCKET. R. I., Oct 22. The thoroughbreds swing into action once more at Narragansett Park tomorrow afternoon for a scheduled period of seventeen days, the final meeting of 1936 in the New England area. During this brief span there will be decided the highly important New England Breeders Futurity, a stake which has an added value of 5,000 and will gross more than double that amount. The first of the eight remaining features will be staged tomorrow with the second running of the six furlongs Worcester Handicap, a dash which has attracted a pair of keen sprinters from New York in The Fighter and Bill Farnsworth as well as the best of those that have been campaigning in these parts during the autumn season. In the inaugural Worcester only an inch or so separated Ajaccio and Crossbow II. at the winning post with the first named prevailing. The latter colt came out of the race to win the Wannamolsset Handicap a short time later. Present indications are that the opening day attraction should prove equally interesting for there is no standout in the event under the ratings of Pat Horgan. Showers visited the grounds today but only served to lay the dust. Given fair weather there should be a great turnout tomorrow as all indications point in that direction. Bill Farnsworth, recent winner of the Interborough Handicap at Jamaica, and The Fighter, third in the same stake, promise to rule about equal choices in the Worcester. The Fighter will not be the only fleet representative of the Milky Way Farm in the Worcester. The Chicago outfit also has named Sangreal, whose record would be much brighter only for a throat affliction. It is probable he will be in the race to make the pace as torrid as possible with his stablemate being relied upon to put in his licks through the stretch. Racegoers in these parts have seen the other five entrants in action through the season and all will have a following. The worth of Lady Higloss may be judged from the fact that she is being asked to pack top weight of 120 pounds. She looks the best of the New England campaigners right off her last race, when she was a smashing second to Accolade, carrying 123 against 122 on the Bright Knight gelding. At one time this filly was a stablemate of Miss Merriment, rated the queen of eastern sprinters. The seven events which surround the stake attraction all drew large fields and barring" scratches, there should be no short priced favorite in any of them. There will he the usual New York, New Haven and, :Hartford special from New York oh, every Wednesday and Saturday of the meeting, leaving the Grand Central at 8:25 a. nv and arriving at the .track at 12:35 p.. m. It returns directly after the final event. The round trip fare of is an attractive one. First post time each day will be at 1:15 p. m.
