Billbo was made a strong favorite in the main event, but after moving up on the second turn, he weakened badly and the finish found him in last place. Bandalore was ridden by T. Dickinson and was rated along in fourth position until the field left the back stretch, where she was sent, up on the outside to be in third position entering the final straightaway. At that point Jamboree, which had been well rated by Joe Wagner in setting the pace from the start, was given his head and he increased his advantage to more than two lengths, over Bandalore with a furlong to go, but the .Rosedale miss responded gamely to Dickinsons urging as the Greentree three-year-old tired suddenly in the final sixteenth, and went on to gain the triumph. Maple Ricca dropped back to last place in the early running and she appeared to have no chance to finish in the money entering the stretch, but she closed very fast on the outside to take third honors over the tiring Star Bud in the last few strides. The latter was able to outgame the favorite despite his early efforts. The combination of Calumet Farms Galla-dee and "Sonny" Workman meant little to the public in the opening race, and the victory of that daughter of Sir Gallahad III. Chickadee proved a surprise. Good Selka was made a strong favorite, but she dropped back right after the start and followed the field of seven other maiden juveniles meeting under claiming conditions throughout the six furlongs dash. Workman had Galla-dee, in front soon after the start, but he just sat still on her until reaching the stretch, where he sent her into a longer lead. At the end she was three lengths ahead of the C.
