FIRST ENTRY IN FRONT Easy Winner of Chandler Park Purse at Detroit. Slow Footing at Motor City Course Ladino, Max B., and Smart Girl Victorious. DETROIT, Mich., June 10. First Entry, consistent performer, scored his most important triumph when he was an easy winner of the Chandler Park Purse, sixth event and main race offered by the Detroit Racing Association, over a slow track at its Fair Grounds course this afternoon. Mrs. J. Ches-neys Professor Paul, under the high weight of 116 pounds, was second, two lengths back of the winner, which enjoyed favoritism, and half a length before Dixianas Brendard, which finished third. Windshield saved fourth from Gyral and Nad, the T. D. Buhl entry, which finished in that order back of the leaders. Away slowly and saved when Windshield, Nad and Brendard furnished a fast early pace, First Entry moved up rapidly when called upon and, taking command inside the final furlong of the mile and seventy yards journey, he came to the end with something to spare. Brendard wore the tiring Windshield and Nad down when they started to make the run for home, but she was unable to draw clear and it was no task for the winner to speed past her. Nad gave way rapidly after reaching the stretch and Gyral, after the opening five-sixteenths, was the trailer. WITHOUT EXCUSE. There was no excuse for Professor Paul, unless" it was his top impost, for the Cheshey four-year-old moved into contention making the stretch turn and he was unable to offer the winner a strong challenge. Despite cold and unseasonable weather, a fair-sized crowd was present. An all-night rain changed track conditions and was responsible for the carded substitute displacing the original fourth event, which attracted only a small field of six. As to be expected outsiders held sway over the choices and only those performers favoring an adverse footing were under colors. Luckily large fields were named for a majority of races and the fourth event was the only sufferer. With a change in the program the fifth event supported the feature and it resulted in the first big surprise of the afternoon when Jack Carters Smart Girl led throughout to be an easy winner over Merry Caroline, the favorite, Brophy and five others at the end of six furlongs. JONES GOOD RIDING. The winner, handled by Farrell Jones, a West Coast product, whose good riding has been one of the bright features of the meeting, took command in the first three strides and after establishing a comfortable Continued on thirty-eighth page. Brophy came from far back to garner third honors and Kabo tired in the last stages. Alwintour was done after five-eighths and the others which included Lonmeg, one of the choices, showed nothing. Belleek carried the colors of E. W. Duffy, local sportsman, to her first victory of the year and a popular triumph when she scored in easy fashion over Just High, Suncircle Blaze and eight others, including the strongly supported Ima Count, at the end of six furlongs in the first race. Max B., dropped back to his class, provided a mild surprise when he was a driving winner of the three-quarters second race, for which Fumble, a luke-warm choice, was never a factor. Billy Mole drove down on the inside to be half a length back of the winner and two lengths before Xinross, which beat the fast finishing Lockstep by a nose for minor honors. ANOTHER FOR LADINO. Star Bucklands Ladino, a demon over the local course, chalked up his second straight victory and his third of the year when he was a handy winner of the three-quarters third race, for which he enjoyed favoritism. King Bee, winner of his last two starts, was second, a length and a half back of the victor and four lengths before Tramway, the third horse. Alf Abel for the second time during the meeting furnished two winners when High Fly came along to complete a double started by Max B. in the fourth race, the carded I substitute, which displaced the original fourth event. Blind Star was second, half a length back of the winner and a nose before Mighty Quick, which led I. Novotny by some three lengths for third.
