ASK COMMISSION FOR DATES 4 Epsom Downs Plans Algust-Sip-, "tember Meeting Governor Allred May Attempt to Block Sessions. HOUSTON,; Texas, June 10. Although! Governor Allred has vetoed provision for . funds for its operation after September 1, the Texas Racing Commission has been called upon, to grant dates for an August-September meeting at Epsom Downs, the Houston tracki and will probably be asked for parallel dates for the Texas Jockey Glub, operating Arlington Downs. The Epsom Downs application requests dates from August 28 to September 25. That racing can be conducted as late as September 25 is based on the assumption that the present special session will not come to a close until late in June, and it now appears that it may last its allotted thirty "days. Racing repeal becomes effective ninety days after the close of the session. Governor -Allred has been quoted as saying "There will be no farewell race meetings," r but he may be unable to prevent a, meeting " which closes before the new law is in effect, and if he does attempt to. do so, a court bat- v. tie will probably ensue if the Epsom Downs directors are determined to go through with their plans. Arlington Downs has not yet made application to the commission for dates, but E. Pi Waggoner said at Kansas City Wednesday that Arlington would apply.
