Flying Scot, Over The Top and Eagle Pass Arrive Reaping Reward and Others Expected Today.. LATONIA, Ky., June 10. Although lain which has been general over the central states the past two days, reached this area early today and produced a sloppy course for the afternoons racing at Latonia, it v.as expected to cease in ample time for the local track to be in its best condition for Saturdays fifty-fifth running of the famous Latonia Derby. IMPROVED CONDITIONS. That the rain might cease and skies clear before daybreak tomorrow, as indicated in the local weather forecast and this, together with the rapid manner in which the Latonia racing strip rids itself of excess moisture, give horsemen and track officials grounds to anticipate excellent conditions for Saturdays big event. Meanwhile, three more intended starters in the Derby, which will be renewed oyer a mile and one-quarter, and all of them formidable threats, reached the scene of the race. From Chicagos Washington Park came Mrs. William H. Fursts Over The Top, erstwhile stable companion of War Admiral, winner of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes, and Emerson F. Woodwards Eagle Pass, a greatly improved performer. Completing the trio of morning arrivals was Flying Scot, John Hay Whitneys winner of the Withers Stakes and only .eastern invader. He came from New York. All were reported in good condition on unloading. MRS. MARS STARTERS. Arrivals this morning left the starters of Mrs. Ethel V. As both Military and Sunset Trail H. had their final stiff training early Wednesday, their trainers preferred to give them a full days rest before sending them oii the overnight trip. The definite starting of todays three invaders and at least two of the Milky Way nominees, together with developments in the camps of several eligibles which have been on the grounds tor isome time, indicate that at least twelve and possibly thirteen, all colts and geldings, will participate in the Derby contest. Twelve starters would give, the stake a gross value of 7,705. Other probable contestants .are the Waggoner Brothers Heelfly, James W- Parrishs Dellor, Ferguson and Herndons Josh, Lucas B. Bischoff, today held an even chance of getting into the race. A good workout over one mile and a furlong this morning greatly enhanced chances for the Bischoff three-year-old to get a crack at the Derby honors. GOOD MOVE. V On the track before the rain had had any-appreciable effect, the son of Paicines and. Genie Crit, which is locally owned, covered the distance in 1:57. Running in handy fashion throughout, .he was timed for the half in :51, the three-quarters in 1:17 and a-mile in 1:43. Josh and Woodberry were the only others to work today and, like Midas, their trainers had them out in time to take advantage of fast footing. Josh" Tattled off three-quarters in 1:14, handily, the half mile in :50, "while in an easier trial Woodberry went five furlongs in 1:06; the half mile in :51. With the field overshadowing those of the past several years, if not comparing with the finest in the long history of the race, the contest is expected to attract a capacity crowd, if only favorable weather prevails.
