SISTER POLLY followed the pace within striking distance for the first three-eighths and came stoutly when straightened out in the stretch, closing gamely to wear down the leaders. FRANCINE C. was prominent throughout and held on well to the end. BLUE GROTTO was hard hustled early in an effort to improve her position but was unable to reach the leaders despite coming willingly on the outside when reaching the stretch, but got up in the final strides to wear down CAPE RACE. The latter opened up a good lead in the red biaFy ,he "mal thr-sixteenths. RAYMAR was unable to improve his position. CTAnn andTANDARD TIME was taken back after taking the opening few strides and raced wide the remainder of the way. MARSHY had some early speed. The latter, closer up than usual, gained a short lead when SIGHTING BAR began faltering and, despite holding on resolutely, was unable to cope with the bid of the winner. LEGENDER was restrained for the first three-quarters, came willingly in the closing drive. BALAPIN, far back early, had to thread his way through his field in the last five-sixteenths and closed a good gap. HIGH VOLTAGE went into a contending position in the opening three-sixteenths, moved up on the outside of the pacemaker when reaching the stretch and, hard ridden, wore down LADY BESSIE after passing the eighth post. LADY BESSIE drew clear of her closest pursuer in the first quarter mile, saved ground in the stretch and finished determinedly. TINDER BOX, away fast, made a game bid to reach the pacemaker, but was not good enough, and tired in the stretch, although never threatened for third. SANCTITY prominent throughout, made a game bid to go along with the winner, but was not good enough and tired m the closing drive. DIE HARD, on the outside of the leaders approaching the stretch, tired after looming SSnSf,0 BUGtE ANN never could engage the leaders. HIGH MARTIN was outrun throughout. BOSTON MARY, raced in nearest attendance of the pace, moyed up on the outside when reaching the stretch and, closing gamely, wore down GOOD OMEN and increased his lead in the last strides. GOOD OMEN went to the front immediately, opened up a good lead but despite holding on willingly was unable to withstand the, closing bid of the winner. BLUE ARMOR was unable to keep up early, moved up oh the outside, then went to the inside and finished gamely although unable to reach the first two. VOTE BOY was well placed early but unable to close any ground when placed under punishment. UP AND. DOING attempted to come through on the inside rounding the far turn when TRANSCAP came over and its rider was forced to take up. He was unable to recover. .Overweight Transcap, 1 pound. MIDSHIPMAN saved considerable" ground at the first turn, moved up fast on the outside when straightened out for the run down the back stretch, wore down the pacemaker before reaching the stretch and had enough in reserve to stave off MORE PEP. The latter, under steadying restraint for the first mile, came willingly on the outside through the stretch run. MORALIST drew away into a good lead but was unable to keep pace with the two leaders in the last quarter mile. LAST ROMANCE, closer up than usual in the early stages, was unable to reach the leaders under punishment in the final mile. CYNWYD was unable to threaten. HIT AND RUN was never prominent. RUFFY moved up steadily on the inside,; was blocked at the far turn and had to be taken to the outside, responded gamely and closed with good energy through the stretch run. SIR ROSE, restrained for the first three-quarters, held on gamely when placed under urging. REDRESS trailed until rounding the far turn, but closed some ground in the last three-eighths.
