PRINCESSPAT STAKES Inhales Presence Adds Interest to Homewoods 5,000 Feature. Whitney Filly Works Well in the Mud Mrs. Mars Entry May Rule Favortie Over Eastern Miss. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 10. Jim Healy, trainer for John Hay Whitneys large stable, had the choice this week, of saddling either Inhale for the inaugural running of the Princess Pat Stakes at Washington Park or of saddling the older Flying Scot for the Latonia Derby, to be run the same afternoon. Trainer Healy turned up at Washington Park with Inhale, the filly, and Saturday will personally supervise her effort in her most ambitious start to date. Trainer Healy is very high on Inhales chances of picking up first honors in the Princess Pat, which has a gross value of 5,000 and very high on her chances of ending, the season the juvenile queen of the land. Inhale had her first trial over the south side track Thursday morning and she was the only candidate for the race to brave the cold winds and sloppy going. Inhale went three furlongs handily in :36, then retired to barn "O" to cool out satisfactorily and await the Princess Pat. She was pronounced as fit as can be for "her third consecutive stakes effort, which again may find her going to the post the favorite, though never has she been asked to go farther than five furlongs in competition. The Princess Pat is at six furlongs and none of the starters have gone that far as yet. AT HOME IN MUD. The possibility of an off-track for the filly race, though somewhat dispelled by a bright sun Thursday afternoon, did not bother trainer Healy for he does not believe it will bother Inhale. Both her stake wins at Jamaica were over fast tracks, but he pointed out that most daughters and sons of The Porter are at home in mud. Healy figures that the added furlong of the Princess Pat should help his fillys chances, and h"r record would indicate just that. Inhales first five starts came at Santa Anita last winter when juveniles were being sent but three furlongs. This proved too short for Inhale. She won a single start, was second once, third twice and out of the money once, and in every instance she was gaining at the finish. Any consideration of Inhales chances for a win in the first running of the Princess Pat brings up the name of Manie OHara, Mrs. Ethel V. Mars unbeaten miss. It is more difficult to predict Manie OHaras like or dislike for a race over a distance of ground, but there is no doubt concerning her ability in mud. Her first start was over a muddy strip and she won by ei ;ht lengths. Her second was on a good track and though she lost some ground, was able to turn back a challenge in the stretch to win by a length. How she will fare over another furlong is a question that will be answered Saturday. Bluefield, the Shandon Farms hope, was t get her last blowout Friday morning when Manie OHara: also will be on the track for a spin. Bluefield is the question mark of the three most highly regarded fillies. It appeared today that Hal Price Head-leys Heritage would not be ready for the Princess Pat, but F. A. Carreauds Little Time may replace her in the starting field. The Bomar Stables Fancy That is regarded a certain starter after her good effort last week and the Valdina Farms stable is to be represented by both Hermana and Osculet.
