DOUBLE IRISH was close to tire pace from the start and, coming fast through the stretch to head HOPE BANQUET, took a good lead in the last eighth. SWEEPING pAME was in close quarters on the inside in the early running but came to the outside in the stretch and, although weaving in the last eighth, was gaining at the end. NOIR LIGHT raced well through the last quarter. RUSTILITE closed some ground. HOPE BANQUET quit badly in the last eighth. Overweight War Chaff, 3 pounds. SECOND RACE 5 1-3 FURLONGS. LITTLE COQUINA opened up a long lead in the early running but tired badly in the stretch. RUTH G. showed fair speed and was easily best of the others. HE DEVIL had the most early speed but bore out gradually to let the winner through on the inside of him and he could never again get to the front. BALD EAGLE finished fairly well. LITTLE CYNIC was closest to CARBINES COMET in the early running and staged a game finish. CARBINES COMET opened up a good lead while racing under restraint in the early running but bore out to the middle of the track on the stretch turn and tired. SOUTH GALLANT went along evenly and seems far from its best form. BOB WEIDEL was badly outrun. FIFTH RACE 3-t MILE Out of Chute. SCYTHE lacked early speed but moved strongly on the outside when called upon in the last quarter and, getting to the front in the stretch, won easily. THE MILLAY, well up from the start, made a strong move on the stretch turn and went well to the finish. JOSEPHINE D. showed fine early speed but held on fairly well. ACTDINE showed a good effort and ran away a half mile after the race. CLOSE CALL showed an exceptionally, weak effort, never being a strong contender. MY MODEL tired badly.
