AGAWAM CHOICES DISAPPOINT Patsey Begone Scores in Wayside Purse With Favored High Hedge Fourth Gershwin Surprises. AGAWAM, Mass., June 12. Turning in her best performance of the New England season to continue the downfall of favorites on a card of eight races, Patsey Begone, brown four-year-old filly in the stable of J. J. Meehan, won the best offering at Aga-wam Park today when she conquered a shifty band of sprinters in the Wayside Purse, under allowance conditions. Opposed by six other seasoned speedsters and ridden skillfully by jockey Albert Schmidl, one of the leading saddlesmiths here, the daughter of Lucullite and Capture ran her winning record for the season to four and rounded out her easy triumph by three lengths as she covered six furlongs in the good time of 1:12 over a track that was termed fast but was dull from recent rains. It was the third start of the meeting for the Meehan miss and on two of the occasions she met defeat by Pass Em By, one of the outstanding sprinters on the grounds. Carrying 114 pounds as her burden, Patsey Begone came to the end three lengths in advance of Miss Premier, which raced coupled with Jean Lee as the Mrs. W. C. Weant and W. C. Weant entry, while third was the portion of Dunnamany, in the G. L. Stryker colors, when he took a narrow decision from the favorite, High Hedge. There was an excuse in the running for the failure of the choice, which was one of the many disappointments during , the day. Leaving the starting point much slower than usual, the son of Tall Timber was rushed off his feet in his endeavor to carry the pace and his suicidal rush proved more than he could stand. After leading the field to the top of the home stretch the H. L. Bowers colt, which enjoyed a big play, lacked the courage to hold his position and gave way readily when his rivals disputed the lead at the stretch turn. Weather conditions were ideal and a banner card attracted a large crowd here for the sport.
