t LATONIA TURF NOTES I e : , -s Daniel E. OSullivan, resident manager of Churchill Downs, the scene of the historic Kentucky Derby, came up from Louisville to attend the running of the Derby and remained over Sunday. Theodore H. Mueller, former member of the Kentucky Racing Association, came from New York to witness the running of the 55th Latonia Derby, while C. L. Croan, present member of the racing board, who has been here for several days, remained for the race. Howard Oots, owner and breeder, who has a stable here in charge of B. J. Eyer-man, motored from Lexington for the day. William E. Smith, vice-chairman of the state racing commission; Mrs. Smith and Junius W. Bell motored from Louisville for the day. One of the larger delegations was headed by racing commissioner S. Sewell Combs. It included Thomas Underwood, secretary to the commission;-Mrs. Underwood, their son, Tommy, and Mr. Underwoods mother. Miss Louise Wilson, assistant secretary to the turf board, also came from Lexington for Neville Dunn, sports editor of the Lexington Herald, and Bill Ladd, turf writer for the Louisville Courier-Journal, were among the several visiting scribes. The information that William Klair, prominent Kentucky political leader and staunch supporter of racing, is progressing nicely, following a heart attack about two weeks ago, pleased his many friends here today. Racing commissioner Polk Laffoon was host to his fellow commissioners in the clubhouse before the races. J. B. Hill, president of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, and a party of friends arrived on a special train from Louisville shortly after noon today to attend the running of the Latonia Derby.
