i TRANSMUTABLE VICTOR Largest Crowd of Meeting Witnesses Eight-Race Program at Aurora. Jockey C. Fields Days Riding Star — Count Valiant Repeats in Secondary Attraction. AURORA, 111., May 21.— With a gathering of racing fans that exceeded that of the inaugural day attendance this afternoon at the Fox Valley Jockey Club, an attractive offering of eight races was presented, despite the fact that the racing strip was at its worst of the season due to the continual rain of the past two weeks. I. C. Littles Transmutable, which appears to have taken a new lease on life as well as a new way of running, came from behind to make it two straight victories when he accounted for the Richard J. Lyons Handicap, a dash of six furlongs that topped the card. The six-year-old son of Transmute — Chickie defeated Mrs. A. M. Creechs Grey Streak by more than a length with Cardin-alis the running companion of the winner finishing in third place. Miss Dolphin, sta-blemate of Grey Streak, landed fourth money in the field of eight contestants. Performing identically the same as he did several days ago when he scored over a much cheaper grade of rivals, Transmutable followed the pace set by Grey Streak until well within the last furlong of the spring, then with Joe Dyer coaxing him along the Transmute gelding moved into the lead and slowly increased his advantage to make the triumph decisive. There was a delay of seven minutes at the starting gate due to the fractiousness of Miss Dolphin. The chestnut filly was finally placed on the outside of the stalls for the start. In the secondary feature, a sprint of five and a half furlongs, which occupied fifth position on the card, Paul L. Kelleys Count Valiant boosted his stock for the Illinois Derby, as he came from behind in the stretch to take the measure of Prince Argo, "Butsey" Hernandez hopeful for the same race, by three-quarters of a length. Argo was four lengths in advance of Pegging Away at the finish, while the others followed in order, Dolly Val, Pelter and Manhunt. That mud is Count Valiants specialty was conclusively demonstrated, as the son of Reigh Count — French Duchess came from behind to win decisively. Xavier, Wesley Sears Farms Illinois Derby hopeful, demonstrated his mud-running ability in the opening race on the card, a six furlongs dash, in which he defeated four others after coming from far out of it in the home lane. Pin Money finished second, with Heidi landing in the third slot. The winner was strongly supported and paid 7 to 5. A rank outsider in the betting came down in front in the second event, which was delayed for several minutes due to a breakdown in the "tote," when Allegory got up in time to register by a head over the strongly favored Gale Way, with Wise Eddie a like margin farther back in third place. Seven ordinary platers went postward for the trying struggle. Charley Fields, who began his riding career too lale in life to be eligible for the apprentice allowance gained the distinction of being the first rider of the current meeting to pilot both ends of the "Daily Double" combination, which was worth 42.80, when he guided Incognito to victory in the third event, after having scored with Allegory in the previous number. Rapid EelLs finished second, a length in the wake of the winner, while Blond Jester drew up in third place. Again in the fourth race Charley Fields turned the trick to make a perfect score for the day as he scored with Triple Spring Farms Mokena for the third consecutive time out of as many mounts. Mokena soundly trounced the favored Jens Son by four lengths, with third place being garnered by Equanimity. It marked the first time this season that any rider was successful three times in a row.
