OAKS CANDIDATES WORK OUT Cross Keys and Dixieland Advance Another Step in Preparation for Filly Fixture. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 21.— The Kentucky Oaks candidates. Cross Keys and Dixieland, owned by the racing partnership of D. B. Midkiff and Howard Wells, advanced another step in their preparation for the ,000 stake to be run next Saturday, when they worked a mile each over a sloppy track at Churchill Downs this morning. They travelled in company and while Cross Keys seemed to be going a little easier than her stablemate at the end, both kept on even terms throughout. The Midkiff-Wells fillies ran the eight furlongs in 1:45%, the first three-quarters in 1:17 and while Dixielands move was described as a handy one, Cross Keys was only breezing. Both of them are considered certain starters in the Oaks which is to be contested over a mile and a furlong. Two other promising candidates for the stake also were out for useful training efforts this morning, James O. Keenes Fan-tine and W. J. Spiows Birdlea. Fantine went a handy mile in l:441i, the six furlongs in 1:15% as Birdlea working with Indian Head, stepped seven-eighths in 1:31% after going the first three-quarters in 1:18%.
