CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES | • « "Buck" Weaver, turf writer of the Louisville Times, has recovered from an attack of I influenza and was able to be at the track a short time Friday. Robert Baird, 17-year-old Huntsville, Texas, boy, had the first mount of his life when he guided Belle Insco in the second 1 race at Churchill Downs Friday. Baird, who has been galloping horses for almost a year and a half, is under contract to the Woolford Farm Stable. He weighs around 100 pounds. Sidney Brown returned Friday morning from Chicago, where he was called by the death of his father, who passed away following an illness of almost four months. He was 80 years old. John M. Gaver. trainer of a division of the Greentree Stable, announced that he nominated Gangplank and Birthday for the Illinois Derby and that one of them would be a certain starter in the race next Saturday.
