MARIATO, steadied along back of the pace for the first half mile, moved up willingly on the outside when called upon, was roused several times after rounding from the back stretch, moved up willingly and kept under urrn-i, drew out slowly in the last eighth. CANDAR went to his knees at the start, recovered gamely and moved up fast to supplant MOON HARVEST from the lead midway down the back stretch, saved ground into the stretch and, despite rallying gamely to punishment, was unable to go along with the winner wh-n challenged. FIDELIS. badly outpaced until the closing five-sixteenths, closed with good energy on the outside thereafter. BELIEVER, prominently placed early, was unable to keep the pace in the last three eighths. MOON HARVEST tired after going five eighths. Scratched— 57624 Baby Way. 103. LIFE GUARD followed in pursuit of the early pacemaker, came wide into the stretch and, finishing with a rush, was along in the closing stride. MICHIGAN LADY worked her way up gradually, came through on the inside at the stretch turn and, taking command when NOTORIETY began tiring, just failed to hold on long enough. EVENING TIME was unable to keep the pace early, closed a good gap in the closinc quarter mile. NOTORIETY opened up a cood lead, onlv to tire badly during the last three-sixteenths. BROGAN, shuffled back during the early runninsr. closed willingly when paining room. VERY BUSY was never in a position to engage the leaders. RUNNING FREE was unable to keep up. MR. WAR MOON, quickest to begin, met determined early opposition from DARK SWEET, withstood a determined bid from ISK1E and was slowly drawing out at the end. ISKIE was prominent all the way and held on camely to the close. FRIENDLY PAUL was hard ridden all the way, moved up threateningly on the outside nearing the stretch and fought it out with good energy to the end. GOOD ODDS, unable to gain racing room early, was shuffled back nearing the far turn and closed with good speed in the last quarter mile. DARK SWEET, hard ridden to keep up with the early pace, tired under pressure. GREEDAN closed some ground after being far back early. BROWN COMET, away slowly, was unable to threaten. METAURUS was steadied along under slight restraint for the opening three-eighths, moved up fast on the outside to supplant WISE DART from command, opened up a daylight advantage when reaching the stretch, and, holding on game!, barely bated long enough to hold the fast finishing COMBAHEE. The latter trailed until leaving the back stretch, closed with a rush in the last eighth and was catching the winner at every stride at the end. NOTRE ME was unable to keep pace early, closed a big gap in the last quarter mile and was leaving rapidly at the end. LEGION, away fast, lacked speed to maintain his advan tage and was unable to close any ground when placed under punishment. WISE DART had good speed for the first half mile, fatlcring thereafter. STAGE BEAUTY displayed speed from the st:-rt, opened up a good lead and, although holding on gamely, was unable to go along with the winner when challenged. TROUPER was prominently placed throughout and continued willingly to the close. MELODIST was unable to keep pace early, then closed some ground through the stretch. CLINGENDAAL lacked his accustomed dash from the stalls, then moved up on the inside in the first quarter mile to gain a forward position, although unable to close any ground under urging when the real test came. TEUFEL, restrained for the first half mile, moved up fast on the outside rounding the back stretch, wore down PELIGROSO II. for the lead approaching the stretch and, continuing in determined fashion under a reusing ride, held him safe to the end. PELIGROSO II. moved up fast on the outside approaching the half mile post, supplanted CLODION from command nearing the far turn, saved ground all the way and battled it out in determined fashion right down to the line. CLODION, unruly at the post, was started outside the stalls, displayed speed in the run to the first turn to take a slight lead straightening out of the back stretch, made a bold bid to go along when challenged, but was not good enough, although holding on stubbornly right to the end. EASTPORT was in the first flight all the way, but was unable to close any appreciable amount of ground under punishment. WAR MINSTREL was never a threat. CORINTO moved up briefly on the outside approaching the stretch. BLACKBIRDER could never reach contention. WHITE HOT tired. TOBACCO outran her field to the first turn, met determined early opposition from R. PINCHOT during the first half mile, fought it out gamely with FOUR SPOT the entire last quarter mile and held him safe to the end. FOUR SPOT, outpaced early, was taken to the outside when reaching the back stretch, moved up fast, made a determined effort to reach the leader and, while not good enough, continued with good courage to the close. ACTDINE was forwardly placed throughout, although unable to close any ground on the leaders during the closing drive. He stumbled while being pulled up. unseating his rider. JANEEN trailed until leaving the back stretch, then made up some ground. BRAVING DANGER was unable to reach the leaders. R. PINCHOT tired. PRINCE DEAN, unable to keep up during the first five ieghths, worked his way up steadily thereafter and finished with good energy. BRASS MONKEY trailed early and closed a good gap.
