Jockey Melvin Calvert, who received a shoulder injury when Margaret I. fell with him last week, returned to the saddle Mon-i day. Apprentice R. Brooks departed for Detroit, I where he reports to trainer Clyde Van Dusen. Smith G. Baker Sr.s Janice and Reidinger Bros. Tilly Kate were shipped to Louisville to fill their engagements in the Kentucky Oaks, to be run at Churchill Downs Saturday. Frank Grill will ride Janice, and C. W. Riedinger hopes to obtain the services of C. Rollins for Tilly Kate. Apprentice Sammy Williams, leading rider of the meeting, will be at Detroit to fill engagements on opening day. The M. J. Schmitt and C. M. Henderson stables got away for Detroit Monday. | Jake Zimbo came up from his home at Henderson for several days of racing. I J. L "Red" Watkins, who serves as plac-[ ing judge at Omaha, is here in behalf of I that meeting. He came here from Columbus, accompanied by P. L.
