CRETE, 111., May 23.— One hundred and fifty units for the sale of pari-mutuel tickets are connected with the totalizator, to be used for the first time during the Lincoln Fields meeting opening next Monday. This system for dispensing tickets is one of the largest in the country and will be in full operation opening day, when a capacity crowd is expected to see the Chicago major racing season ushered in at the beautiful Lincoln Fields course. The totalizator, work on which started many weeks ago, was nearing completion today and the giant mechanism will undergo final tests next Sunday, the day before the inaugural. Some few parts remain to be installed during the interim before the Sunday trial of the entire system. In addition to 150 sellers, the mutuel department at Lincoln Fields Monday will work 144 cashiers. This set-up, as arranged by E. A. Wiedekamp, superintendent of the betting department, is expected to provide amply for the publics requirements. Work on other improvements to the plant and grounds also are being rushed to completion and will be ready for public inspection Sunday. The grounds are in the process of being beautified and the clubhouse and grandstand are undergoing alterations designed for the further comfort and pleasure of patrons. , The rapid-fire De-Brie camera, which gave such satisfactory service last year, again will be in operation this spring to help the judges in verifying close finishes and, of course, reproductions of these pictures again will be displayed at conspicuous points on the grounds. Meanwhile interest in the meeting is running high, judging from the number of requests for opening day boxes and reservations, and a banner crowd is expected to turn out for Mondays holiday opening.
