FAIRMOUNT STARTING GATE I i New Contraption Light and Mobile — Pleases Collinsville Horsemen. Shipments From Other Tracks Arriving for Opening of Thirty-One-Day Meeting Monday, May 30. COLLINSVILLE, 111., May 23.— A new starting gate, built expressly for Fairmount , Park, and which will remain here perma-1 nently the year around, arrived at the Col-j linsville track Tuesday morning in preparation for the thirty-one-day spring campaign, beginning Decoration Day, May 30. Of the regulation twelve stalls, each leather-padded, the machine is impressive I for its lightness and mobility, and several I of the horsemen on the grounds who had a chance to inspect it while sending their thoroughbreds through early workouts, were quick to offer their stamp of approval. General manager D. C. Burnett was advised that heavy shipments of horses would arrive this week and continue up to the opening, from Aurora, Kentucky, Ohio, New York, New England, and other points, and j in preparing for the rush, Burnett ordered •workmen to have the barns in shape to ac-1 commodate the arrivals. Norman "Butsey" Hernandez and Frank | Seremba will send two of the largest stables I from Aurora, Hernendez having sixteen, and i Seremba owning eighteen. Hernandez, who I led the money-winning owners here last fall, . has as his ace Prince Argo, winner of five races this year, and considered an almost certain starter in the ,200 Memorial Handicap, inaugural feature here. Seremba has two fast ones. Lucky Ducky and Pegging Away, which may be seen in the sprint headliner, too. Of the larger establishments coming from Kentucky is that of Mrs. R. J. Murphy, with Little Nymph, Bunny Martin and others, and bringing also the star jockey, Willie Lee Johnson, who won the local riding championship last fall.
