J I ] BEULAH PARK NOTES I 3 4, Jockey Stewart "Buddy" Vail, who departed Friday night to ride on Saturday, rejoined the jockey colony at Beulah Park. W. R. Dahlstrom, patrol judge at Beulah, will leave early this week to join the staff of officials at Lincoln Fields, Chicago, 111. W. J. Sprow returned Monday from his home in Sandusky, Ohio, where he attended the funeral of his mother. Walter Ritter, general manager of Ascot Park, Akron, Ohio, was a visitor Saturday. He reports everything in readiness for the opening of the meeting there on Saturday. Robert Pulling, owner of the Pulling Foundry in Columbus, was the holder of the lone "Daily Double" ticket sold on the combination of Colonel Jr. and Courant, winners of the first and second races, respectively, on Saturday. The return was ,461.60 for , "a new record" at this track. Felawake was claimed out of Saturdays sixth race by Rosen and Goshen for ,000. The horse was making his second start in the colors of J. Johnson, who had claimed him from Benny Klayman and Leonard Lynch for 00 earlier at this meeting. Ingle Nook found a new home via the claiming route after the last race, Mrs. H. C. Rumage taking him for ,000. H. C. Rumage will train him in the future. Beulah Parks spring meeting will close Monday, May 30, when a special Memorial Day program of eight races is planned. Thus far during the meeting, five track records have been broken and another equalled. In addition, the record for four furlongs was twice broken, actually making six records that have been surpassed. Despite adverse weather conditions on several days, good crowds have been turning out daily, indicating tremendous interest in the runners in central Ohio. Following the Beulah meeting, stables that are racing here will scatter to the four winds. Carter Everett, trainer for I. J. Collins of Lancaster, will ship to Wheeling, W. Va. E. B. Shipp will race his large stable at Fairmount Park. However, most of the stables here will go to Ascot Park, on the Cleveland-Akron Highway No. 8, where a nineteen-day meeting will start Saturday, May 28. Among the horsemen who will campaign at Ascot Park are: M. H. Powelson, Virgil Carmichael, Doug Hoffman, C. C. Kranz, F. B. Smith, C. E. Deahl, Dr. L. N. Jentgen, N. E. Shop, Bill McCabe, C. Shafer, Clyde Lee, Jerry Bronnenberg, Ray Dolloway, D. R. Clark and W. Jones. From Ascot, many will go to Lancaster for the eight-day meeting there from June 25 to July 4, inclusive. A nineteen-day fall meeting will be held at Beulah from September 3 to September 24, inclusive. The last Ladies Day of the current meeting at Beulah will be held Friday, May 27. E. B. Shipp plans to race his large stable at Fairmount Park following the close at Beulah Park. E. E. Major will ship to the same point. m
