SQUAWKER, under slight restraint for the first half mile while never far from the leaders, responded in gamer fashion than usual when placed under pressure and was along in the. closing stride to wear down VELVET MASK. The latter, hard hustled to gain a prominent position early, disposed of ALERGY for the lead inside the last seventy yards and just failed to last. ALERGY fought it out determinedly for the lead and only tired during the closing stages. FAIR TIME came stoutly on the inside through the stretch run. IRENES BOB was quickest to begin and was in the thick of contention, only to tire in the last three-sixteenths. MEDIUS DIES was far back early, but came with belated speed on the outside through the stretch. ELLEN H., away slowly, was forced to work her way up .gradually on the inside and, in close quarters repeatedly, moved up steadily when obtaining racing room and, while finishing in determined fashion, vas unable to endanger the winner during the closing eighth. FRIENDLY PAUL, slow to begin and outpaced for the first three-eighths, closed a good gap thereafter. ESPRIT held to a forward position throughout. DONA MONTEZ had good early speed, then faltered steadily during the last three-sixteenths. HASTY ROSE was unable to enter serious contention. MAESTRUNG had brief early speed. LADFIELD, quickest to begin but lacking speed to maintain his position, was never far from the pace while holding to a position on the outside, responded willingly when called upon, disposed of BLUE GROTTO for the lead and held NOTICE ME safe. The latter, outpaced for the first half mile, swung to the outside when reaching the stretch and, closing gamely, was overtaking the winner at the finish. HARVEY G. O. trailed until reaching, the stretch, then finished with -a ruh, getting up in the concluding stride to wear down BLUE GROTTO. The latter mqved through on the inside to gain command during the first quarter mile, then drew clear, only to tire during the last three-sixteenths. HISTORIC ERA, restrained for three-quarters, fought it out m determined fashion through the stretch run. GRAND LIGHT outran his field to the first turn, was rated along under slight restraint and faltered steadily after reaching the stretch.
