JOCKEYS FAVOR SEABISCUIT Vote Eleven to Nine for Howard Star in Match Race. Owners and Trainers Favor War Admiral Twenty-Eight to Twenty-Three Match Details. BALTIMORE, Md., Oct. 11 A poll of the racing colony at Laurel Park on the probable winner of the War Admiral-Seabiscuit race at Pimlico November 1 offers very little satisfaction to the average racing fan looking for advance information. Eleven of the twenty jockeys interviewed cast their vote for Seabiscuit. Among those voting for the Howard star were Ray Hight-shoe, Charlie Stevenson, Bobby Dotter, "Red" Howell, Lucas Dupps, Tommy Luther, Mike Sarno, Ralph Eccard and George Witmer. On the other side, in favor of War Admiral, were Alfred Robertson, "Sonny" Workman, Preddie Scheih, W. C. Huff, Ira Hanford, R. Morris, George Seabo and J. Mattioli. Owners and trainers interviewed were twenty-eight for War Admiral and twenty-three for Seabiscuit. Even the officials were split, with four out of seven favoring the son of Man o War. In a group of fans who spend their time around race tracks, the result was seventy-five for War Admiral and sixty-nine for Seabiscuit. Among the many interviewed, the following made comment: John Grecly, Shandon Farm trainer: "That is one I cant pick, but Ill be there to see it." Charlie Corbett, contract rider for Miils- dale Stable: "Ill string along with Seabiscuit, as he is better than credited." RUNS LIKE A CLOCK. Alfred Robertson, contract rider for Milky Way Farm: "War Admiral runs like a clock, and you cant beat that kind." Guy Bedwell, trainer: "Seabiscuit is a cinch." Mose Cossman, E. R. Bradley agent: "I cant pick the winner, but I wouldnt miss the race for a fortune." Toney Pedone, agent: "War Admiral will run. Seabiscuit off the track." Bert Mulholland, trainer for George D. Widener: "How-can you bet against War Admiral?" J. P. "Doc" Jones, trainer for- Mrs. Louise Viau: "Well, War Admiral at last gets a chance to give Seabiscuit the licking I always thought he could administer." Willie Booth, trainer for Mrs. E. Dene-.mark: "Very close, but I like War Admiral." Dion Kerr, trainer of Aneroid, vhich.,de-feated Seabiscuit in California: "Why, Sea-biscuit cant toss that one off." James V. Stewart, Everglades Stables trainer: "Seabiscuit in a photo finish." Walter Burke, program handicanper at all Maryland tracks: "War Admiral will be the program favorite, but they both have class, and a dead heat wouldnt surprise me." TERMS OF AGREEMENT. Following are the terms of agreement and conditions governing the Pimlico Special War Admiral-Seabiscuit race at Pimlico Thursday, November 1: Place Pimlico race course. Date Tuesday, November 1; if postponed, Thursday, November 3. Distance One and three-sixteenths miles. Weight One hundred and twenty pounds each. Start Walk-up, using starters bell and flag. Purse Fifteen thousand dollars and trophy to the winner. Forfeit Each owner has posted a ,000 forfeit. In the event both horses go to the post, the forfeit money is returned to the owners. If a walkover occurs, the purse is reduced to ,000 and the non-starter forfeits ,000. Track condition Fast track, with a neutral umpire to decide by 8:30 a. m. Tuesday, November 1, whether the race will go that day or be postponed to Thursday, Novem-9- ber3. Wagering Pari-mutuel betting as permitted by state law, utilizing the totalizator. Wagering will be confined to a straight, or win, pool, only. Admission Grandstand, .65 including tax; clubhouse enclosure, .50 including tax; reserved box seats, .50; reserved grandstand seats, .75, .65 and .10.
