t NARRAGANSETT PARK NOTES f $ e Bryan Steele, assistant to starter Buddy Wingfield, arrived at Gansett from Hawthorne this morning. Bryan will start schooling horses from the barrier Wednesday morning. Shipments of horses from Havre de Grace and Hawthorne with the advance guard from Rockingham have brought the total number of horses now on the grounds up to 800. With shipments arriving almost hourly by van and train, over 1,400 horses will be on the grounds on the eve of the opening of the fall meeting Thursday. Harry I. Day and a crew of steel workers took a kink out of one of the steel supports of the "Electric Eye" today. A slightly bowed tendon was all the damage the hurricane was able to do to the "Eye." The cameras were given their final tryout today and were focused and fixed into position for the opening day. Tests proved that the efficiency of the camera had not been impaired in any way. Horsemen who have used the Gansett racing strip for workouts during the past I week say that it is in better condition than ever before. The hurricane did absolutely no damage to the track itself. Tom Harrop, secretary to the state division of horse racing, issued the first jockeys license of the fall season to Tommy Murphy. This afternoon, sixteen riders filed their applications, which will probably be granted tomorrow. Secretary Harrop and division , chief Francis J. Kiernan are keeping long I hours in the commission office to accom-I modate horsemen who are arriving at all j hours of the day and night.
