FORD AND MARTIN MEET DETROIT, Mich., Oct. 11 Henry Ford and Homer Martin, president of the CIOs United Automobile workers, passed the time of day for about five minutes at the Ford offices today. Fords personnel manager, Harry Bennett, who told of the Ford-Martin meeting, said he conferred with Martin forty-five minutes longer on union demands for a thirty-two hour week to spread work in the industry. It was the first time Ford, bitter foe of unionization, and Martin, who long has openly declared his intention of organizing Ford workers, had met. Bennett, in charge of all Ford workers, also is an outspoken foe of organization in the Ford plants. Bennett said he discussed with Martin conditions in supply plants and the general labor picture. He said he lunched with Martin after the conference and invited the union leader to come back to talk about "any organization which is doing business with us that is unfair."
