t SHREVEPORT TURF NOTES f s s S. N. Sunny Sam Holman, former racetrack operator and who once raced a pretentious string of horses throughout the country, is among the old timers who will be represented at the meeting of the State Jockey Club. "Sunny Sam" has one horse here in training which he brought from Detroit following the close of that meeting. Word was received from C. H. Fouts that his racers have departed by van from Fair-mount Park and will be unloaded at the Shreveport track tomorrow. Owen E. Pons, a member of the official personnel of the State Fair Jockey Club, arrived and is assisting racing secretary E. A. Hileman with the work in the racing secretarys department. Jockey George Miller, who was contract rider for the Greentree Stable a few years ago, is among the advance guard of riders here. Others who will sport the silks who have put in their appearance already are Jimmy Dillea, O. Hernandez and R. Conner. The latter was runner-up to apprentice Dew for the leading rider honors at the recent Fairmount Park meeting. John Thorwald, radio station operator o Dallas, Texas, was a visitor today and made arrangements for accommodations for three horses that will fly the colors of his Skaal Stable during the forthcoming meeting. The racers are High Hand H., Imperial Maryan and Out of Fire. John Oliver unloaded four horses which he vanned from Fairmount Park. Gumption, one of the quartette, suffered superficial wounds in his right hind thigh when he slipped from the unloading platform.. The injury is not regarded as serious. Charles F. Henry, who was appointed to the position of steward to replace S. C. Nuckols, will arrive next week to pass on the applications for trainer and jockey licenses. Henry is at present racing secretary at River Downs. Bud Ray, trainer of the W. A. Mike! sta-; ble, reported that the veteran jockey T. King ! will report here to do the stables riding throughout the fall session. Allegory, Vola Bowers, Water Play, Sun Martin and Wood Brush made up the band of Pershall and Jameson racers that trainer Carl Newhome brought in from Collinsville Tuesday. Otto "Brick" Torrell, who served as timer at State Fair Park last season, checked in from Fairmount Park and was a visitor at the track Tuesday morning. Julius Siegcl, Shreveport wrestling impres-sario, who blossomed .out as an owner last fall, has three horses to carry his black and white silks during the coming meeting. The horses are Adrian, Go Forth and Camp Parole. Jockey R. R. Simpson was an addition to the steadily-increasing riding colony and plans to don the silks and ride during the twenty-five day session here. Simpson was formerly first string rider for the Blue Ridge Farm Stable of Alderman William OToole of Chicago. Noel Robertson checked in with Brown Cracker and Northern Spy. William McKouse, who has Kai-Finn, Ethlyn, Amared and Scar Finn quartered here, has made preparations to add Watch-erun and Rosy Doon to the string later in the week.
