INNOVATIONS AT SHREVEPORT New Odds Board and Stewards Stand at Louisiana Track. Condition Books Embracing the First Seven Days Distributed Meeting Opens on October 22. SHREVEPORT, La., Oct. 13 Many innovations have been provided for the followers of thoroughbred racing in North Louisiana for the twenty-five day session that gets under way October 22, with the opening of the annual Louisiana State Fair. Numerous improvements have been made for the convenience of the patrons. Satisfied that residents of this section of the Pelican State and nearby Texas are staunch supporters of the thoroughbred sport, officials of the state jockey club have spared no expense and have made inducements for a better grade of horses to come here for the impending meeting. Jjmong the structural improvements that have already been made and others that are nearing completion are a salon near the finish line, a new odds board and stewards stand, and additional shelter for the mutuel department. There are many other features that were lacking last season when racing was brought back. Indications are that virtually all of the structural work remaining will be completed by the end of this week. An invitation is extended to the public to oversee the spic and span little plant on Sunday. The "open house" idea is carried out at mrfny of the major tracks of these United States on Sunday preceding the inauguration of the racing season and has proved quite popular, therefore the practice has been adopted by the state jockey club. MEETS HORSEMEN APPROVAL. Condition books embracing the first seven days of the scheduled meeting of twenty-five days were released this morning by racing secretary E. A. Hileman, and the conditions are meeting with the approval of the owners and trainers, thus assuring the cooperation of the horsemen to provide a high type of thoroughbred racing. Seven races and a substitute contest are on the initial days card, headed by the Inaugural Handicap, which is to be decided over the mile and seventy yards route, and is open to three-year-olds and upward. Four of the events are sprints, while the remaining three are over greater distances. The Inaugural Handicap is expected to attract some of the foremost distance runners on the grounds. Nominations close Thursday, October 30. While there are seven races scheduled for opening day, only six events are planned during the week. However, the latter is not a permanent arrangement and the number may be increased after the meeting gets under way.
