MUGGINS raced to the front in the opening strides, withstood repeated bids from HAPPY HOST m. the run through the back stretch, was permitted to increase her advantage steadily after rounding the far turn and was never threatened thereafter. HAPPY HOST was in closest pursuit of the winner for most of the trip and held on gamely to the end. LIKEWISE was forwardly placed all the way, but was unable to seriously endanger the first two and barely lasted to hold safe the bid of QUEL JEU. The latter, unruly at the post, was started outside the stalls, broke toward the outside, was soon straightened out and was unable to reach the leaders under stout urging early, began giving improved speed when reaching the stretch and was traveling rapidly at the close. FUNDERBURG loomed up menacingly on the inside midway of the turn, only to hang under punishment. WHOOPER was outrun. AFTERMATH gained a slight lead nearing the far turn, fought it out gamely for the remainder of the way and, in a stubborn duel the entire last three-eighths, held BLACK RHAPSODY safe to the end. BLACK RHAPSODY had speed from the start, held on determinedly when supplanted from the lead and held on courageously to the close. ELYLEE, never far back, held on with good energy to the close. LUNSFORD lacked his accustomed early speed, but was well placed and was unable to endanger the leaders. LADDIE STONE was unable to close any ground under urging. WAR CHASE made up some ground. ERNIE MANZER was going willingly at the close. MERRY HA HA was outrun. SILENT WITNESS, forwardly placed from the start and disputing the early command with NEON LIGHT, was taken in hand, then was steadied when the pacemaker increased his advantage midway of the turn, responded readily when straightening out in the stretch and was along in the last seventy yards. NEON LIGHT had speed from the start and fought it out determinedly right down to the line. FLYING JACK was away slowly, moved up steadily in the run through the back stretch, but was unable to reach the first two. ROSCOE, slow to begin and stoutly restrained until the closing quarter mile, was- going stoutly through the closing stages when too late. STEPACOLA made up some ground. GEODESIAN tired. U-BOAT raced to the front in the first three-sixteenths, drew clear before the opening quarter mile had been covered, lost ground when rounding the turn and, continuing a wide course, surrendered the lead befora reaching the stretch, but, soon straightened out, responded gamely and was along in the last few strides. LADY INFINITE, slow.er than usual during the early stages, was fortunate in obtaining clear sailing on the inside throughout and, getting to the front, held on stubbornly, but was not quite good enough. UPSLALA was well placed and, under pressure during the last five-sixteenths, was unable to close any appreciable amount of ground 6n the leaders. DINNER JACKET was well placed, but was unable to make up any ground in the drive. NIGHT MIST closed a good gap from a tardy beginning. PURPLE WRACK dropped back after racing well up early. SLAVONIA was a forward factor all the way and held on with good courage to the close to outlast BUSTER BOY. The latter moved Up on the inside leaving the back stretch, then loomed up menacingly nearing the stretch turn, only to yield ground slowly the remainder of the trip. SAUNDERSTOWN was in the thick of contention throughout, tiring slightly during the stretch run. AUREATE was well placed early, but was unable to go along with the leaders when the real racing began! CONRAD MANN, permitted to drop far out of contention early and trailing his field until nearing the far turn, moved up fast on the inside, wore down the leaders, then opened up a good lead and was under stout restraint at the finish. LIBERTY TORCH moved up steadily in the run through the back stretch, disputed the lead with AFFIRMATION and, while barely holding the latter, was no match for the winner in the closing test. AFFIRMATION stumbled slightly at the start, recovered gamely, raced prominently placed all the way, took command when STRAIGHT THRU began to tire and, despite holding on stubbornly, was unable to maintain his advantage. PRINCE SADOR closed with a belated rush through the stretch. MOTLEY was stoutly restrained in the jun through the back stretch and showed a dull effort. DISTRACTIBLE was unable to reach the leaders. The latter had good speed in pacemaking and, while unable to go along with the winner when challenged, came again through the last sixteenth, battling it out. gamely to the end. DIARISSA, unable to keep pace early, was forced wide when bettering her position and finished with good energv in the closing test. PRINCE DEAN trailed early, then closed gamely. PEACEFUL moved up stoutly nearing the stretch, but was unable to close any ground thereafter. JANEEN lost ground rounding the first turn and, continuing to race wide, was unable to enter into serious contention. SUN MICA tired during the last quarter mile.
