RUN TWO STAKES SATURDAY Laurel Offering Laurel Stakes and Maryland Futurity Seabiscuit May Be Among Starters. LAUREL, Md., Oct. 13. Dual stakes will be presented to patrons of the Laurel plant of the Maryland State Fair, Inc., on Saturday. These are the one-mile Laurel, for horses of all ages, and the six furlongs Maryland Futurity, for two-year-olds foaled in Maryland. The former event, which will be run for the twenty-fifth time, carries an added value of ,500, and the Futurity calls for a purse of ,000 added. The Futurity will have its eighths running. In 1937, the running of the Laurel Stakes resulted in a dead heat between Seabiscuit and Heelfly, when the pair ran the mile in 1:37. Chief interest in this years running will be centered in the problematical return appearance of the C. S. Howard ace. The son of Hard Tack has been named for the event and is in this sector in training, but It will not be known until the appearance of the entries tomorrow if he will be among the starters. Over the-Pimlico track this morning, Sea-biscuit turned in a fast half mile in :48, and it was believed that the move was in preparation for the Laurel, as his match engagement with War Admiral is not scheduled until November 1, and he has not been named for the 5,000 added Washington Handicap on the closing day at Laurel. The appearance of rain to mar the track to any extent is believed almost certain to cause the withdrawal of Seabiscuit. That the presence of Seabiscuit in the Laurel will not frighten away other starters is the opinion of racing secretary John P. Turner, who believes that the Laurel will attract about a dozen starters. A large field is also expected in the Futurity.
