R. NASH STARS AT GANSETT a Canadian Boy Pilots Woodsaw and Brain Trust to Popular Victories. Nix Colt Heads Pumpgun Home, With Sun Capture and Marson Dividing Third Honors. PAWTUCKET, R. I., Oct. 17. Ronnie Nash the Canadian cyclone who is the cur- -rent riding sensation at Narragansett Park, " once more starred at the Pawtucket racing ! ground today, completing a double as he : piloted Mrs. J. A. Nixs Woodsaw to victory 3 in the three-quarters Hartford Purse that featured the card. Previously Nash had rid- ; den Brain Trust home. He also had been second on two other mounts. Nash had Woodsaw a length clear of H. Engers Pumpgun in the Hartford, with J. M. Brooks Sun Capture and -Mrs. F. Ros-siters Marson running a dead heat for third place, half a length off the runner-up. The Canadian booter had to take very much the worst of it to win. Cautivo, Sun Capture and Marson went down the back stretch like a cavalry team, almost abreast of each other, with Woodsaw fourth. Nash tried to come through but was unable to find an opening. However, he eaaed back and gradually worked his way to the outside of the battling trio as they made the turn. At the stretch Marson drew into a narrow lead over Sun Capture, but Woodsaw had found running room on the outside and was closing on the leaders with every stride. Nash had the Nix campaigner in front by the time they reached the sixteenth pole. He hand-rode his mount cleverly in the final yards to win drawing away. PUMPGUN CHALLENGES. Pumpgun also charged fast in the stretch to earn the place, passing tiring horses in the final sixteenth of a mile. Once more the weather was more like July than October, many racegoers watching the sport in their shirt sleeves. The redoubtable "Ronnie" Nash continued to ride in excellent form as the sport opened here today, riding home in the initial six furlongs on Jexry McCarthy Stables Brain Trust. Nash had the victor a length clear of Paul Kelleys fast-closing Gallant Stroke as they passed the line, with Mrs. L. H. Nim-koffs Free Again taking the show award a head back. Happy Host was fourth. The race was run in 1:12. I The race was marked by an accident that , , eliminated two horses on the far turn. Kro- j I vitz pulled up Squabble as she crossed her . legs and stumbled, and Wise Player went , j j into her broadside, tossing Berger. There were no injuries and both horses were far j back at the time. Nash just missed riding both ends of the i "Daily Double," as he lost the second by a nose on W. Watermans Harrys Dream. The mile and three-sixteenths distance test was ! won by E. B. Townsends A. OConnell. There ! was also a hard battle for third, J. J. Fitzgeralds Flag Song, the favorite, taking that award by a nose over Bethlehemstar. The ! pair were a length and a half off the leaders.
