CHESAPEAKE NEXT SATURDAY Challedon, Ariel Toy and Ciencia Among Outstanding Eligibles. Impound, Eight Thirty and Volitant Also n Nominees for Havres Rich 5,000 Stake Race. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 15. With the Harford Handicap decided, attention at Havre de Grace is centered on the excellent program arranged for the first full week of the meeting. Racing secretary Charles X McLennan has drafted conditions that are well above the average. Daily feature attractions are offered culminating in the twentieth running of the Chesapeake Stakes on Saturday. This special is endowed with an added value of 5,000 and is expected to attract the best three-year-olds in training in the East. The race has long been looked upon as a stepping stone for Kentucky Derby and Preakness eligibles, and the thirty-two nominations include some of the best of that age now in training. The stake is to be decided over one mile and a sixteenth. Included in the list of nominees are W. L. Branns good colt Challedon, Hugh W. Jacksons Ariel Toy, King Ranchs good filly Ciencia, Saratoga Stables Volitant, Alfred Vanderbilts Impound, and George D. Wide-ners Eight Thirty. A meeting of even one half of these would be sufficient to create keen interest in the running. In addition to those named, there are several other highly regarded three-year-olds nominated. For the Saturday program, McLennan has two handicaps to head the supporting field behind the Chesapeake Stakes. These are the Conowingo Handicap, at one mile and one-sixteenth, and the Walbrook Handicap, a dash of six furlongs. The off-day racing that usually goes with Fridays sport will not be witnessed here if McLennan is able to make his conditions stand up. Two allowance races over a distance of ground are scheduled to be contested. Two allowance races are also slated to be run on Thursday. These are both six-furlong dashes. The Wednesday program will be headed by the Belair Handicap, supported in the main by an allowance race. The Mayfield Handicap, at six furlongs, and the Perryville Purse, for three-year-olds under allowances, will feature Tuesdays racing.
